The idea behind relationship
healthchecks is to provide structured, insightful information about the nature
of the interpersonal and psychological relationship between two partner
organisations. More and more organisations nowadays are entering into such
relationships, for reasons including:
- Business
Process Outsourcing
- Key
Suppliers
- Agency
arrangements
- Consortia
Typically these relationships
are formalised by a contract and supporting agreements, such as service level
guarantees. However, the most carefully crafted contract will not make effective
a relationship in which the partners lack trust & respect for each other.
Conversely, an open, supportive, loyal relationship needs almost no recourse to
legal agreements – there will be an "instinct" to work for mutual
benefit .
The healthcheck methodology
comprises a combination of questionnaire and structured interview approaches,
analysis and feedback. An important proviso is that the healthcheck is
undertaken on behalf of both partner organisations, and the feedback report is
similarly jointly owned. The frequency of healthchecks is tailored to suit the
nature of the relationship.
Relationship Healthchecks are
equally appropriate for key internal partnerships, too - particularly
where there are differences in internal culture. Mergers and acquisitions,
cross-site working, process re-engineering, changing technology...all these can
produce new, key relationships within an organisation. It makes sense to have a
